Compatibility
This is a Rome part for socket SP3; it does not fit SP5 boards built for EPYC 9004. The P suffix makes it single-socket only; it will not run in a two-socket board. At 180 W the Dell PowerEdge R6515 needs the high-performance heatsink; standard fans are fine with 4 x 3.5-inch or 8 x 2.5-inch drives, while the 10-drive NVMe chassis needs high-performance fans. Memory runs at DDR4-3200 with one DIMM per channel and drops to 2933 at two per channel; the R6515 takes RDIMMs or LRDIMMs, not UDIMMs. Browse matching parts for the Dell PowerEdge R6515.
When to Choose This
The 7402P is the 24-core Rome part with a 2.8 GHz base, a good fit for mixed VM hosts and application servers. If your licensing is per core, the Milan EPYC 7443P gives 24 Zen 3 cores and a 4.0 GHz boost for more work per license. If you need more threads, the 32-core EPYC 7502P stays at the same 180 W.
