About this part
Refurbished Dell BOSS-S2 2x 1TB kit, the largest rear hot-plug boot mirror for the BOSS slot in Dell 15th gen PowerEdge servers. Dell BOSS mirrors two M.2 SATA SSDs in hardware RAID 1 on a dedicated controller, so the operating system boots off the front bays and does not use a PERC channel. Dell supports one virtual disk per card, so the pair is the boot volume and nothing else.

Compatibility
BOSS-S2 mounts in the integrated BOSS slot at the rear, cabled to the system board with BOSS power and signal cables; it does not go in a riser slot. It runs two 80mm M.2 SATA SSDs in RAID 1 or non-RAID, no RAID 0, one virtual disk. It is not NVMe; Dell moved to the NVMe BOSS-N1 on 16th gen. Browse matching parts for the Dell PowerEdge R750xs.
When to Choose This
Take the 1TB S2 pair for a Linux root carrying container images, local repositories or long log retention, or Windows Server with large dumps and application data on the boot volume. For a hypervisor, 240GB is enough. Fair warning: Dell's BOSS-S2 guide lists 240GB and 480GB drives and supports the card with the drives it shipped with, so a build under Dell support should use the 480GB kit.
