Compatibility
This H740P is the mini mono form: it mounts in the mini PERC socket on the system board and never takes a PCIe slot, so it is not a substitute for the H740P adapter, and the adapter cannot stand in for it. Mini mono cards carry chassis-specific Dell part numbers, so match KW30F to the controller Dell lists for your service tag. 13th gen servers do not support the H740P. When to Choose This
Pick the H740P when a dense storage server carries production write traffic: backup targets ingesting at speed, RAID 6 across many drives, or a file tier that wants cached writes. Against the H730P, the 8 GB cache absorbs far larger write bursts. Where the software stack handles redundancy itself, such as Ceph or ZFS, the HBA330 is the right controller and a RAID cache sits unused.
Installation Notes
Swapping controllers leaves the drive configuration marked foreign: import it through HII or iDRAC, then update to current PERC 10 firmware.
