Refurbished Dell HBA355i Front, a 12 Gb/s non-RAID host bus adapter for the front controller slot in Dell 15th and 16th gen PowerEdge servers. The HBA355i is Dell's PERC 11 era internal host bus adapter, built on the Broadcom SAS3816 with a PCIe 4.0 x8 host link and 16 SAS lanes. It passes drives straight to the operating system with no RAID and no cache, for software-defined storage such as vSAN, Storage Spaces Direct, Ceph and ZFS.

Compatibility
This is the front-mount HBA355i: it installs in the dedicated front controller position and takes its host link and power through chassis cables, so it never consumes a PCIe slot and will not fit one. The HBA355i Adapter is the rear-slot version. The SAS and power cables are chassis parts and stay with the server. There is no RAID personality to enable on this card, so plan the array in the operating system. Do not mix PERC 11 cards with PERC 9 or PERC 10 controllers in one system. When to Choose This
Choose the HBA355i when the operating system or hypervisor owns redundancy: vSAN, Storage Spaces Direct, Ceph and ZFS all want raw disks with no controller cache in the path. It is not a RAID controller. For a hardware parity array, take the H755 with 8 GB NV cache; for a cacheless boot mirror, the H355. Check controller firmware against the vSAN or Storage Spaces Direct compatibility list before deployment.
