About this part

Refurbished Dell Intel X540-T2 dual-port 10GBase-T, a low-profile PCIe converged network adapter for a half-height slot in Dell PowerEdge servers. Dell-branded Intel and Broadcom server NICs are sold under Dell part numbers for PowerEdge servers and take Dell's own firmware update packages. These cards add 10GbE ports through a standard PCIe slot, beside the onboard 1GbE LOM.

Compatibility

3DFV8 is the low-profile bracket build, the right height for the half-height rear slots on the Dell PowerEdge R350 and the low-profile riser slots on the Dell PowerEdge R6515. It is a PCIe 2.1 x8 card, so it runs at Gen2 speed in a Gen4 slot and wants an x8 electrical slot. The RJ45 ports run 10GBase-T to 100 m on CAT6a and negotiate down to 1GbE on older switch ports. When to Choose This

The X540-T2 is the budget way to put two copper 10GbE ports on existing CAT6a cabling, with SR-IOV and VMDq for virtualization on the mature ixgbe driver. The Intel X550 is the newer copper choice with a PCIe 3.0 bus and lower power draw. If you need hardware iSCSI or FCoE offload, or NPAR, the Broadcom 57810S 10GBase-T card is the alternative.
