Refurbished Dell PERC H830 with 2 GB NV cache, an external RAID controller for a PCIe slot in Dell 13th gen PowerEdge servers. The PERC H830 is the external member of Dell's PERC 9 family, with the same LSI SAS3108 RAID-on-chip and 2 GB of battery-backed non-volatile cache as the H730P. It runs hardware RAID on direct-attached SAS shelves through two external mini-SAS HD ports.

Compatibility
The H830 is a PCIe adapter only; Dell makes no mini mono version, and it does not drive the server's internal bays. It takes a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot and connects through SFF-8644 cables, sold separately, to 12 Gb/s SAS shelves such as the PowerVault MD1400 and MD1420: up to 8 enclosures, 4 per port. When to Choose This
Choose the H830 when a 13th gen server has run out of internal bays and needs hardware RAID 6 or 60 on an external shelf with write-back cache. For a shelf managed by ZFS or Storage Spaces, a 12 Gb/s SAS HBA without RAID is the better fit. Keep internal drives on an H730P; the H830 does not replace it.
