BOSS-S1 is a PCIe adapter holding two 80mm M.2 SATA SSDs; it does not run NVMe M.2. Dell supports RAID 1 or non-RAID, no RAID 0, one virtual disk. There are no drive LEDs and no hot-plug; a drive swap means powering down. Some 15th gen chassis take the S1 as an integrated-slot module, so confirm yours takes the adapter form. When to Choose This

The 480GB pair is for Windows Server on bare metal with local logs, page file and update cache on the boot volume, or a Linux root with room under /var and /opt. If the box only boots ESXi or Hyper-V, the 240GB kit does the same job. If the root also carries container images or long log retention, take the 1TB kit. Either way the front bays stay free for data.

Installation Notes

Build the mirror in the BOSS-S1 configuration utility, install the OS to that one virtual disk, and set it first in UEFI boot order. It always spans the full 480GB mirror.
