This is a SAS drive, so it needs a hardware PERC, Smart Array or HBA and a SAS backplane; onboard SATA ports and SATA-only software RAID will not run it. In a chassis built with 3.5-inch bays it needs a 2.5-to-3.5 adapter carrier. Carriers do not cross over: Dell 13th gen trays differ from 14th to 16th gen trays, and HPE uses its own carriers, so we match the tray to your chassis. When to Choose This

The 1.2TB 10K is the middle of the 2.5-inch spinning range and a common size for VM datastores and file shares on a RAID 10 or RAID 6 set. It gives twice the space of the 600GB 10K at the same spindle speed. If the workload is random-heavy, such as a database or many busy VMs, a SAS SSD outperforms any number of 10K spindles; the 1.2TB is for capacity at sensible cost.
