Compatibility

This 3.5-inch LFF drive needs a 3.5-inch bay; a 2.5-inch-only chassis cannot take it. It is SAS, so it needs a PERC, Smart Array or HBA with a SAS backplane, not onboard SATA. When to Choose This

The 16TB suits backup targets, media libraries and long-retention archives where bay count is the limit. On 15th gen hosts such as the R750xs, note that the PERC H355 and H345 do RAID 0, 1 and 10 only; RAID 6 needs an H755 or H745. We do not build RAID 5 from drives this large, since rebuilds run long and a second failure ends the array. The 12TB is the alternative for smaller sets.

Installation Notes

To boot from a volume above 2 TB, use UEFI and a GPT partition table. On PERC, clear any foreign configuration before adding the drive to a new virtual disk.
