Compatibility

Bay first: this drive needs a 3.5-inch LFF bay; a 2.5-inch-only chassis cannot take it. Interface second: it is SAS, so it runs behind a PERC, Smart Array or HBA on a SAS backplane, not from onboard SATA. Dell 3.5-inch trays changed between 13th gen and 14th gen, and HPE LFF carriers are their own design, so we match the tray to your chassis. When to Choose This

The 18TB is for bulk retention: backup repositories, camera archives and cold file storage where terabytes per bay matter more than IOPS. Pair it with flash for anything latency-sensitive. RAID 5 is a poor bet at 18TB: one rebuild reads every remaining drive end to end for well over a day, so we quote RAID 6 or RAID 10. The 16TB or 20TB are the neighbouring sizes.

Installation Notes

To boot from a volume above 2 TB, use UEFI and a GPT partition table. On PERC, clear any foreign configuration before adding the drive to a new virtual disk.
