Compatibility

SAS only: the drive needs a SAS controller (PERC, Smart Array or an HBA) and a SAS backplane, and it will not run from onboard SATA. A 3.5-inch bay takes it only in a 2.5-to-3.5 adapter carrier. Dell changed tray design between 13th gen and 14th gen, and HPE carriers are their own design, so we match the tray to the chassis you run. When to Choose This

This is the 2.5-inch 2TB, for SFF bays where a 3.5-inch drive cannot go, such as an 8-bay 1U. In a server with 3.5-inch LFF bays, the 2TB 3.5-inch SAS drive fits directly and is the better buy. At 7,200 RPM it suits backup staging, logs and bulk file storage; for VM datastores, the 1.8TB or 2.4TB 10K is faster per spindle.
