Compatibility

It needs a 3.5-inch LFF bay; servers configured only with 2.5-inch bays have no place for it. As a SAS drive it needs a hardware PERC, Smart Array or HBA and a SAS backplane. The carrier must match: Dell 13th gen LFF trays do not fit 14th to 16th gen bays, and HPE carriers are not interchangeable with Dell, so we match the tray to your server. When to Choose This

The 3TB is mainly a like-for-like replacement for an existing 3TB array, or a low-cost drive for small file shares and tower servers such as the T430. Replacing with the same capacity keeps the virtual disk geometry simple. For a new build, the 4TB and 6TB cost little more and give more room per bay.

Installation Notes

Above 2 TB, a boot volume needs UEFI and a GPT partition table; legacy BIOS mode cannot address the full drive. On PERC, clear any foreign configuration before adding the drive to a virtual disk.
