Refurbished enterprise 8TB 3.5-inch SAS hard drive, a nearline capacity drive for LFF SAS bays in Dell PowerEdge and HPE ProLiant servers. Refurbished enterprise SAS hard drives are the capacity tier of a server: previously deployed, tested, and sold by capacity, spindle speed and form factor rather than by brand, because the manufacturer varies by lot. They run on any PERC, Smart Array or HBA with a SAS backplane, at the link speed the controller and backplane negotiate.

Compatibility

It needs a 3.5-inch LFF bay; servers configured only with 2.5-inch bays have no place for it. As a SAS drive it needs a hardware PERC, Smart Array or HBA and a SAS backplane. The carrier must match: Dell 13th gen LFF trays do not fit 14th to 16th gen bays, and HPE carriers are not interchangeable with Dell, so we match the tray to your server. When to Choose This

The 8TB SAS is for file servers and backup targets on a SAS controller, for example a 15th gen R650 with four LFF bays. The 8TB SATA costs less on the same controllers. From 8TB up we do not quote RAID 5, since the rebuild window is long enough to risk a second failure; we quote RAID 6 or RAID 10. On 15th gen, RAID 6 needs a PERC H755 or H745, as the H355 and H345 do RAID 0, 1 and 10 only.

Installation Notes

To boot from a volume above 2 TB, use UEFI and a GPT partition table. On PERC, clear any foreign configuration before adding the drive to a new virtual disk.
