Refurbished HPE Smart Array P440ar 2GB FBWC, a cached RAID controller for the ar modular slot in HPE ProLiant Gen9 servers. The P440 family is HPE's 8-lane, 12 Gb/s SAS Smart Array for Gen9 ProLiant servers, with flash-backed write cache. It is the mainstream Gen9 RAID controller for 8-bay cages.

Compatibility
The ar card mounts on the system board's modular connector and does not use a PCIe slot; it will not fit a standard PCIe slot, and Gen9 servers without the modular connector need the P440 plug-in card. HPE built a DL360 Gen9 specific P440ar with a shorter heatsink and requires it in that 1U chassis, so check the heatsink height before installing in a DL360 Gen9. The 2 GB cache needs the HPE Smart Storage Battery. Drive cables usually stay with the chassis. Gen10 servers moved to type-a controllers and do not take ar cards. When to Choose This
The P440ar is the default Gen9 controller for an 8-bay cage running RAID 1, 5, 6 or 10, and it keeps every PCIe slot free for NICs and GPUs. For software-defined storage that wants raw drives, the H240ar HBA costs less and has no battery to manage. For 16 drives on one controller, step up to the P840ar; for a Gen9 server without the modular slot, use the P440 PCIe card.
