Refurbished HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 2GB, a cached RAID controller for the type-a modular slot in HPE Gen10 and Gen10 Plus servers. The P408i is the Performance RAID tier of HPE's Smart Array SR Gen10 family, with 8 lanes of 12 Gb/s SAS and 2 GB of flash-backed write cache. It is the everyday Gen10 production controller for RAID 5, 6 and 10.

Compatibility
The type-a card mounts on the system board's modular connector and leaves the PCIe slots free; it does not fit a PCIe slot, which is what the P408i-p is for. The 2 GB cache needs an HPE Smart Storage Battery or Hybrid Capacitor, sold separately. HPE builds type-a cards in standard and LH (low-height heatsink) versions, so match the heatsink to the chassis. Drive cables usually stay with the chassis. When to Choose This
The P408i-a is the production controller for RAID 5, 6 or 10 on an 8-bay cage where write-back cache matters: databases, VM datastores, file servers. For boot mirrors only, the cacheless E208i-a costs less and needs no battery. Past eight drives on one controller, the 16-lane P816i-a avoids an expander.
Installation Notes
Connect the battery or capacitor cable before first boot. One HPE 96W Smart Storage Battery serves several P-class controllers, so a server that already has one usually needs only the cable.
