The P408i is the Performance RAID tier of HPE's Smart Array SR Gen10 family, with 8 lanes of 12 Gb/s SAS and 2 GB of flash-backed write cache. It is the everyday Gen10 production controller for RAID 5, 6 and 10.

The -p card goes in a standard PCIe slot, so it suits chassis whose type-a modular connector is absent or occupied, at the cost of one expansion slot. A server that ships without a riser needs one fitted first. The 2 GB cache needs an HPE Smart Storage Battery or Hybrid Capacitor, sold separately; route its cable before closing the lid.
