Refurbished HPE Smart Array P441 4GB FBWC, an external SAS RAID controller on a low profile PCIe card for HPE ProLiant Gen9 servers. The P441 is HPE's external Smart Array for Gen9 ProLiant servers: 8 lanes of 12 Gb/s SAS on Mini-SAS HD with 4 GB of flash-backed write cache. It runs external disk enclosures, not the internal cage.

Compatibility
The P441 has no internal ports, so it cannot run the server's own drive cage; it connects only to external SAS enclosures through its Mini-SAS HD ports. It needs a PCIe slot that is physically x8 or wider, and the board is low profile. The 4 GB cache needs the HPE Smart Storage Battery, which HPE requires on Gen9 P-series controllers; it is sold separately. When to Choose This
Choose the P441 to hang a JBOD or disk shelf off a Gen9 server and run hardware RAID 5, 6 or 60 across it with write-back cache. For the internal cage, use the P440ar or P440 instead. If the shelf feeds a software-defined storage stack that wants raw drives, an external HBA such as the H241 skips the cache and the battery.
