The Xeon Bronze 3100 series is the entry tier of Intel's 1st Gen Xeon Scalable (Skylake-SP) family, with six DDR4-2133 memory channels and 48 PCIe 3.0 lanes per CPU. It has no Turbo Boost and no Hyper-Threading, so it suits light infrastructure roles where a populated socket matters more than speed.

Compatibility
This Skylake-SP part fits LGA 3647 boards only, not the older LGA 2011-3 sockets. The CPU runs memory at DDR4-2133 whatever the DIMM rating. When to Choose This
The 3104 is for a box that needs a socket populated and little else: a backup target, a license server, or a second CPU to light up the memory slots and PCIe lanes wired to CPU2. At 1.7 GHz with no turbo it is slow for anything interactive. The Silver 4110 gives 8 cores, Hyper-Threading and a 3.0 GHz turbo at the same 85 W. Step-up: on Dell 14th gen boards, 2nd Gen (Cascade Lake) parts such as the Bronze 3204 drop in after a BIOS update.
