Refurbished Intel Xeon E-2236, a 6-core, 12-thread processor for LGA 1151 one-socket servers. The Xeon E-2200 series is the Coffee Lake Refresh of Intel's entry server line on LGA 1151 and the C246 chipset, adding an eight-core top bin and higher turbo clocks over two DDR4-2666 ECC channels and 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes. It suits single-socket file, web and small virtualization servers.

Compatibility
This is a Coffee Lake Refresh E-2200 part for C246 boards. It shares the LGA 1151 socket with the Xeon E3-1200 v5 and v6, but their C236 boards will not run it. The Dell PowerEdge R240, R340 and T340 take one processor with unbuffered ECC DDR4 UDIMMs only, four slots and 64 GB maximum at up to DDR4-2666; RDIMMs are not supported. When to Choose This
The E-2236 is the balanced E-2200 choice: six cores, twelve threads, 3.4 GHz base and 4.8 GHz turbo. It runs a small Hyper-V host, a busy file server or a mixed application server well. Against the E-2136 it gains 100 MHz of base and 300 MHz of turbo on the same board. If VM count is the goal, the eight-core E-2278G adds headroom, but 64 GB of memory usually limits first.
