About this part
Refurbished Intel Xeon E3-1280 v6, a 4-core, 8-thread processor for LGA 1151 one-socket servers. The Xeon E3-1200 v6 series is the Kaby Lake refresh of Intel's E3 line for LGA 1151 boards on the C236 chipset: four cores, two DDR4-2400 memory channels and 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes per CPU. It adds clock speed over v5 on the same platform for small single-socket servers.

Compatibility
This is a Kaby Lake E3-1200 v6 part for C236 boards. It shares the LGA 1151 socket with the Xeon E-2100 and E-2200, but not their C246 chipset, so it does not cross over in either direction. The Dell PowerEdge R230 and R330 take one processor with unbuffered ECC DDR4 UDIMMs only, four slots and 64 GB maximum; registered RDIMMs are not supported. A v6 CPU runs memory at up to DDR4-2400, where a v5 part tops out at 2133. Browse matching parts for the Dell PowerEdge R330.
When to Choose This
The E3-1280 v6 runs 3.9 GHz base and 4.2 GHz turbo across eight threads. Pick it for sustained single-thread load, where its base clock holds speed better than the E3-1270 v6, which shares the same turbo ceiling. It suits build servers, small database hosts and legacy apps. For the top of the range, the E3-1285 v6 adds 200 MHz of base clock and a 4.5 GHz turbo.
