About this part
Refurbished Intel Xeon E5-2680 v4, a 14-core, 28-thread processor for LGA 2011-3 two-socket servers. The Xeon E5-2600 v4 series is Intel's Broadwell-EP refresh of the Grantley (C610) platform: up to 22 cores, four DDR4 channels and 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes per CPU. It is the final step for Dell 13th gen and HPE Gen9, still useful for fleet capacity adds and labs.

Compatibility
This Broadwell-EP part fits LGA 2011-3 Grantley boards only, not LGA 2011 (E5 v2) or LGA 3647 sockets. It runs memory at up to DDR4-2400, stepping down at 3 DIMMs per channel. At 120 W it stays on HPE's standard heatsink; the high-performance heatsink starts above 120 W. On the DL160 and DL180 Gen9, HPE supports v3-to-v4 upgrades only up to 105 W, so use a board that shipped with v4. In a Dell PowerEdge that shipped with v3, update the BIOS before installing v4 parts. v3 and v4 cannot be mixed in one server. In a two-socket build, run a matched pair: the same SKU in both sockets. When to Choose This
The 2680 v4 is the balanced pick of the series: 14 cores at 2.4 GHz within 120 W, so it stays on standard HPE heatsinks. It suits VMware and Hyper-V hosts and SQL Server. For more clock, the E5-2690 v4 runs 2.6 GHz at 135 W; for more cores at 120 W, the E5-2695 v4 gives 18.
