About this part
Refurbished Intel Xeon E5-2697 v3, a 14-core, 28-thread processor for LGA 2011-3 two-socket servers. The Xeon E5-2600 v3 series is Intel's Haswell-EP generation for the Grantley (C610) platform, with four DDR4 channels and 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes per CPU. It is an older platform that still earns its place in fleet capacity adds and lab builds.

Compatibility
This Haswell-EP part fits LGA 2011-3 Grantley boards only, not LGA 2011 (E5 v2) or LGA 3647 sockets. It runs memory at up to DDR4-2133, stepping down at 3 DIMMs per channel. At 145 W it needs HPE's high-performance heatsink, plus the high-performance fan kit in the 1U DL360 Gen9; in the Dell PowerEdge R630, use the high-TDP heatsink, and note the 10-bay R630 with PCIe SSDs tops out at 135 W. v3 and v4 cannot be mixed in one server. In a two-socket build, run a matched pair: the same SKU in both sockets. Browse matching parts for the Dell PowerEdge R730.
When to Choose This
The 2697 v3 runs 14 cores at 2.6 GHz base, the fastest 14-core Haswell part, for virtualization hosts and databases that want both core count and clock. It is a 145 W part, so plan the cooling. If 14 cores at lower power suits you, the E5-2695 v3 runs 2.3 GHz at 120 W; if you need more cores, the E5-2699 v3 gives 18. Moving to v4 means replacing both processors.
