About this part
Refurbished Intel Xeon E5-2698 v4, a 20-core, 40-thread processor for LGA 2011-3 two-socket servers. The Xeon E5-2600 v4 series is Intel's Broadwell-EP refresh of the Grantley (C610) platform: up to 22 cores, four DDR4 channels and 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes per CPU. It is the final step for Dell 13th gen and HPE Gen9, still useful for fleet capacity adds and labs.

Compatibility
This Broadwell-EP part fits LGA 2011-3 Grantley boards only, not LGA 2011 (E5 v2) or LGA 3647 sockets. It runs memory at up to DDR4-2400, stepping down at 3 DIMMs per channel. At 135 W it needs HPE's high-performance heatsink, plus the high-performance fan kit in the 1U DL360 Gen9; in the Dell PowerEdge R630, use the high-TDP heatsink. In a Dell PowerEdge that shipped with v3, update the BIOS before installing v4 parts. v3 and v4 cannot be mixed in one server. In a two-socket build, run a matched pair: the same SKU in both sockets. When to Choose This
The 2698 v4 gives 20 cores at 135 W, 40 per two-socket host, a dense consolidation part that runs cooler than the 145 W top bin. It suits VMware, Hyper-V and container hosts. The E5-2699 v4 adds two cores at 145 W. If your software is licensed per core, it is the wrong pick; the E5-2667 v4 gives eight faster cores.
