About this part
Refurbished Intel Xeon E7-8880 v4, a 22-core, 44-thread processor for LGA 2011-1 four-socket servers. The Xeon E7-8800 v4 series is Intel's Broadwell-EX top tier for LGA 2011-1, built to scale to eight sockets, with DDR4 and 32 PCIe 3.0 lanes per CPU. In Dell 13th gen and HPE Gen9 four-socket servers it earns its place for very large in-memory databases on a budget.

Compatibility
This is a Broadwell-EX part for LGA 2011-1 boards; it never interchanges with E5-4600 servers, which use LGA 2011-3. At 150 W it runs cooler than the 165 W parts in this series. On the HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen9, memory sits in 8 cartridges with 96 DIMM slots, three-socket builds are not supported, and HPE does not support mixing v3 and v4 processors or mixing SKUs. In the Dell PowerEdge R930, populate every socket with the same SKU as well. Browse matching parts for the HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen9.
When to Choose This
The E7-8880 v4 is the power-sensible high-core part: 22 cores and 55 MB cache at 150 W, 15 W per socket below the E7-8890 v4 for only two fewer cores. It suits virtualization consolidation and large in-memory databases where rack power is the limit. Per-core licensing is the trap at 88 cores per server; the E7-8891 v4 is the license-friendly alternative.
