Intel Xeon E7-8890 V4 - 2.20GHz 24 Core

Refurbished Intel Xeon E7-8890 v4, a 24-core, 48-thread processor for LGA 2011-1 four-socket servers. The Xeon E7-8800 v4 series is Intel's Broadwell-EX top tier for LGA 2011-1, built to scale to eight sockets, with DDR4 and 32 PCIe 3.0 lanes per CPU. In Dell 13th gen and HPE Gen9 four-socket servers it earns its place for very large in-memory databases on a budget.

Specifications

Compatibility

This is a Broadwell-EX part for LGA 2011-1 boards; it never interchanges with E5-4600 servers, which use LGA 2011-3. At 165 W, confirm the heatsink and fan configuration supports the top E7 v4 TDP. On the HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen9, memory sits in 8 cartridges with 96 DIMM slots, three-socket builds are not supported, and HPE does not support mixing v3 and v4 processors or mixing SKUs. In the Dell PowerEdge R930, populate every socket with the same SKU as well. Browse matching parts for the Dell PowerEdge R930.

When to Choose This

The E7-8890 v4 is the flagship: 24 cores and 60 MB cache per socket, 96 cores and 192 threads in a four-socket server. It is the part for maximum consolidation and the largest in-memory databases on this platform. The traps are 165 W per socket and per-core licensing. If you want nearly the same capacity at lower power, the E7-8880 v4 gives 22 cores at 150 W.
