The Xeon Gold 5200 series is the mainstream Gold tier of Intel's 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable (Cascade Lake-SP) family: six DDR4-2666 channels (DDR4-2933 on the 5222), 48 PCIe 3.0 lanes and Optane persistent memory support. It is the balanced pick for virtualization and database hosts.

Compatibility
This Cascade Lake-SP part fits LGA 3647 boards only, not LGA 4189 servers. A 1st Gen Xeon Scalable server needs a Cascade Lake capable BIOS first (2.1.x or newer on Dell 14th gen), flashed with the old CPUs installed; do not mix generations. This SKU sets memory at DDR4-2666, so faster DIMMs clock down. The HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen10 needs mezzanine kit P07991-B21 for sockets three and four. The Gold 5215 is the efficient entry Gold: ten cores at 85 W with DDR4-2666 and Optane persistent memory support. It suits virtualization hosts that need Gold memory speed without the power draw, and four-socket builds on a budget. The Silver 4210R costs less for the same ten cores but drops to DDR4-2400 and two sockets. If you need more cores, the Gold 5218 gives sixteen at 125 W.
