Refurbished Intel Xeon Gold 5218, a 16-core, 32-thread processor for LGA 3647 two-socket and four-socket servers. The Xeon Gold 5200 series is the mainstream Gold tier of Intel's 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable (Cascade Lake-SP) family: six DDR4-2666 channels (DDR4-2933 on the 5222), 48 PCIe 3.0 lanes and Optane persistent memory support. It is the balanced pick for virtualization and database hosts.

Compatibility
This Cascade Lake-SP part fits LGA 3647 boards only, not LGA 4189 servers. A 1st Gen Xeon Scalable server needs a Cascade Lake capable BIOS first (2.1.x or newer on Dell 14th gen), flashed with the old CPUs installed; do not mix generations. In the Dell PowerEdge R740, pair it with Dell's high-performance heatsink kit. This SKU sets memory at DDR4-2666, so faster DIMMs clock down. When to Choose This
The Gold 5218 is the workhorse of the Gold 5200 line: sixteen cores, 2.3 GHz base and 3.9 GHz turbo at 125 W. It fits general virtualization and mixed database hosts. The Gold 5218R adds four cores at the same 125 W on a 2.1 GHz base, the better consolidation part, but it is two-socket only. Trap: DDR4-2666 trails the Gold 6200 parts; memory-bound work belongs on the Gold 6230.
