The Xeon Gold 5300 series is the mainstream Gold tier of Intel's 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable (Ice Lake-SP) family. It trades memory speed for price: DDR4-2933 across eight channels, with 64 PCIe 4.0 lanes per CPU.

Compatibility
This is an Ice Lake-SP part for LGA 4189 boards only; it does not fit the older LGA 3647 sockets. The N suffix marks Intel's network-optimized SKU, and memory runs at DDR4-2666 with it, below the DDR4-2933 of the standard Gold 5300 parts. At 150 W it crosses HPE's heatsink threshold: on the HPE ProLiant DL360 and DL380 Gen10 Plus, HPE requires the high-performance heatsink kit P27095-B21 for any processor of 150 W or more. When to Choose This
The 5318N is Intel's network and NFV part in the 24-core Gold 5300 class: software routers, firewalls, packet processing and 5G user-plane work at 150 W, 15 W below the 5318Y. For general virtualization or databases, the Gold 5318Y is the better part: the same 24 cores with DDR4-2933 memory and Speed Select profiles. The trap is memory bandwidth; analytics hosts lose throughput at DDR4-2666.
