The Xeon Gold 5300 series is the mainstream Gold tier of Intel's 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable (Ice Lake-SP) family. It trades memory speed for price: DDR4-2933 across eight channels, with 64 PCIe 4.0 lanes per CPU.

Compatibility
This is an Ice Lake-SP part for LGA 4189 boards only; it does not fit the older LGA 3647 sockets. The S suffix marks Intel's security SKU, with a 512 GB Software Guard Extensions enclave per CPU; using it needs SGX enabled in BIOS and software written for it. Memory runs at DDR4-2933, set by the processor. On the HPE ProLiant DL360 and DL380 Gen10 Plus, HPE requires the high-performance heatsink kit P27095-B21 for any processor of 150 W or more. When to Choose This
The 5318S is for confidential computing: workloads that keep data encrypted in memory inside SGX enclaves, such as key management, secure multiparty analytics and regulated data processing. The large enclave is the reason to buy it. If your software does not use SGX, the Gold 5318Y gives the same 24 cores and clocks plus Speed Select at the same 165 W; buy that instead.
