Refurbished Intel Xeon Gold 5420+, a 28-core, 56-thread processor for LGA 4677 two-socket servers. The Xeon Gold 5400 series is the mainstream Gold tier of Intel's 4th Gen Xeon Scalable (Sapphire Rapids, 2023) family for LGA 4677. It trades memory speed for price: eight DDR5 channels at up to 4400 MT/s, with 80 PCIe 5.0 lanes per CPU.

Compatibility
This is a 4th Gen Xeon Scalable (Sapphire Rapids) part for LGA 4677 boards only; it does not fit the LGA 4189 or LGA 3647 sockets of earlier generations. At 205 W it needs the L-type heatsink and Dell's high-performance Gold fans in the 1U Dell PowerEdge R660, and the high-performance heatsink in the Dell PowerEdge R660xs and R760xs. Dell lists it for both xs boards, within their 32-core and 250 W limits. Memory runs at DDR5-4400 with this CPU, whatever the DIMM rating. When to Choose This
The 5420+ is the top core count in the 5400 series: 28 cores with all four accelerators (QAT, DLB, DSA, IAA) enabled, a fit for dense VM hosts, encrypted storage and compression-heavy work. If memory bandwidth matters more, the Gold 6438Y+ gives 32 cores at DDR5-4800 for 205 W. The catch: the accelerators only help software built to use them, so check your stack before paying for the plus.
