Refurbished Intel Xeon Gold 5520+, a 28-core, 56-thread processor for LGA 4677 two-socket servers. The Xeon Gold 5500 series is the mainstream Gold tier of Intel's 5th Gen Xeon Scalable (Emerald Rapids, 2024) family for LGA 4677, running eight DDR5-4800 memory channels and 80 PCIe 5.0 lanes per CPU. It brings 28 cores to the Gold 5 tier with faster memory than the 5400 series.

Compatibility
This is a 5th Gen Xeon Scalable (Emerald Rapids) part for LGA 4677 boards only; it does not fit LGA 4189 or LGA 3647 sockets, and the system BIOS should be current before the swap. At 205 W it needs the high-performance heatsink in the Dell PowerEdge R660xs; Dell fits the standard heatsink only up to 150 W on that board. The R660xs carries 16 DIMM slots, one per channel, so fill all eight channels per CPU. Memory runs at DDR5-4800 with this CPU, whatever the DIMM rating. The 5520+ is the two-socket 28-core 5th Gen Gold part, with QAT, DLB, DSA and IAA enabled: a pair gives 56 cores for VM hosts and encrypted or compressed storage. One-socket builds should take the Gold 5512U. The warning: the accelerators help only software written for them, so confirm your stack uses QAT or IAA before paying for the plus.
