This is an Ice Lake-SP part for LGA 4189 boards only; it does not fit the older LGA 3647 sockets. The N suffix marks Intel's network-optimized SKU, and memory runs at DDR4-2666 with it. At 32 cores it is the largest processor the cost-optimized Dell PowerEdge R650xs and R750xs accept; those boards cap at 32 cores per socket and run one DIMM per channel. On the HPE ProLiant DL360 and DL380 Gen10 Plus, HPE requires the high-performance heatsink kit P27095-B21 for any processor of 150 W or more. When to Choose This
The 6338N is for 5G core, vRAN, NFV and packet processing: 32 cores at 185 W, 20 W below the Gold 6338. That power saving is real in dense telecom racks. For general virtualization or databases, choose the Gold 6338 instead; it has the same 32 cores with DDR4-3200, which matters for memory-heavy hosts. The trap here is memory bandwidth at DDR4-2666.
