Compatibility
This is an Ice Lake-SP part for LGA 4189 boards only; it does not fit the older LGA 3647 sockets. At 230 W it is a high-TDP part. In the 1U Dell PowerEdge R650 it takes Dell's T-type heatsink and calls for the high-performance fan configuration; check Dell's thermal restriction table against your drive layout. The 2U R750 has more headroom. On the HPE ProLiant DL360 and DL380 Gen10 Plus, HPE requires the high-performance heatsink kit P27095-B21 for any processor of 150 W or more. When to Choose This
The 6342 is the clock-speed pick at 24 cores: 2.8 GHz base and 3.5 GHz turbo with full DDR4-3200. It fits database servers, VDI and per-core licensed applications that want more cores than the Gold 6346 without giving up clock. The cost is power: 230 W per socket against 185 W for the Gold 6336Y, which runs the same 24 cores at 2.4 GHz. Size power supplies and cooling for it.
