Compatibility
This is an Ice Lake-SP part for LGA 4189 boards only; it does not fit the older LGA 3647 sockets. At 235 W it is a high-TDP part. In the 1U Dell PowerEdge R650 it calls for Dell's high-performance fan configuration; check Dell's thermal restriction table against your drive layout. The 2U R750 runs it without special handling. On the HPE ProLiant DL360 and DL380 Gen10 Plus, HPE requires the high-performance heatsink kit P27095-B21 for any processor of 150 W or more. The 6348 is the clock-speed pick in the 28-core class: 2.6 GHz base and 3.5 GHz turbo with full DDR4-3200 memory speed. It suits database servers, VDI hosts and per-core licensed software such as SQL Server Enterprise, where faster cores earn their keep. If you want more cores at lower power, the Gold 6338 gives 32 cores at 205 W on a 2.0 GHz base clock; it is the better consolidation part and the weaker single-thread part.
