Compatibility
This is a 4th Gen Xeon Scalable (Sapphire Rapids) part for LGA 4677 boards only; it does not fit the LGA 4189 or LGA 3647 sockets of earlier generations. Intel rates it for one-socket use only, so it cannot run as a pair; fit it in CPU1 of a single-processor build. At 185 W it runs on the standard heatsink in the 1U Dell PowerEdge R660; Dell calls for high-performance Gold fans only in dense storage layouts such as the 10-bay NVMe build. When to Choose This
The 6421N is Intel's single-socket networking bin: 32 cores at 185 W for NFV, 5G core and virtual firewall loads where throughput per watt counts. For general single-socket virtualization, the Gold 6414U gives the same 32 cores with DDR5-4800 memory at 250 W. The trap: the 1.8 GHz base clock is slow for latency-sensitive or per-core licensed software, and it never pairs.
