This is a 4th Gen Xeon Scalable (Sapphire Rapids) part for LGA 4677 boards only; it does not fit the LGA 4189 or LGA 3647 sockets of earlier generations. At 185 W it runs on the standard heatsink in the 1U Dell PowerEdge R660; Dell calls for high-performance Gold fans only in dense storage layouts such as the 10-bay NVMe build. When to Choose This
The 6428N is a two-socket networking bin: 32 cores at only 185 W, built for NFV and packet-processing nodes where cores per watt matter more than memory speed. For general virtualization, the Gold 6438Y+ gives the same 32 cores with DDR5-4800 and the full accelerator set at 205 W. The trap: DDR5-4000 is a real bandwidth cut for databases and analytics.
