Compatibility
This is a 4th Gen Xeon Scalable (Sapphire Rapids) part for LGA 4677 boards only; it does not fit the LGA 4189 or LGA 3647 sockets of earlier generations. At 225 W it needs the L-type heatsink and Dell's high-performance Gold fans in the 1U Dell PowerEdge R660, and the high-performance heatsink in the Dell PowerEdge R660xs and R760xs; Dell's xs thermal tables restrict some drive layouts above 205 W. When to Choose This
The 6442Y is the balanced part: 24 cores at 2.6 GHz base with full DDR5-4800, for database servers, VDI hosts and per-core licensed applications that still need a reasonable core count. The Gold 6448Y gives 32 cores at the same 225 W if you need consolidation more than clock. The warning: 225 W per socket sits high in the xs thermal range, so plan the fan and heatsink kit with the CPUs.
