Compatibility
This is a 4th Gen Xeon Scalable (Sapphire Rapids) part for LGA 4677 boards only; it does not fit the LGA 4189 or LGA 3647 sockets of earlier generations. At 270 W it needs the L-type heatsink and Dell's high-performance Gold fans in the 1U Dell PowerEdge R660; Dell restricts some drive layouts at this TDP, so check the thermal table against your build. When to Choose This
The 6444Y is the fastest 16-core part in the 4th Gen range: 3.6 GHz base, 4.1 GHz turbo and 45 MB of cache, for per-core licensed SQL Server and Oracle, simulation and trading systems. The Gold 6426Y gives the same 16 cores at 185 W and 2.5 GHz base for far less heat. The trap is power: 270 W for 16 cores is the worst watts per core in the series, so buy it only where clock speed pays.
