Compatibility
This is a 4th Gen Xeon Scalable (Sapphire Rapids) part for LGA 4677 boards only; it does not fit the LGA 4189 or LGA 3647 sockets of earlier generations. At 270 W it needs the L-type heatsink and Dell's high-performance Gold fans in the 1U Dell PowerEdge R660; Dell restricts some drive layouts at this TDP, so check the thermal table against your build. When to Choose This
The 6454S is the storage and HCI bin at 32 cores, aimed at vSAN, Ceph and other software-defined storage nodes with heavy NVMe and compression traffic. For compute-led hosts, the Gold 6438Y+ gives 32 cores at 205 W with a 4.0 GHz turbo against 3.4 GHz here. The trap is the 270 W TDP: it needs the Gold fan kit in a 1U chassis and costs power at the wall.
