Refurbished Intel Xeon Platinum 8268, a 24-core, 48-thread processor for LGA 3647 two-socket and four-socket servers. The Xeon Platinum 8200 series is the top bin of Intel's 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable (Cascade Lake-SP) family: up to 28 cores, six DDR4-2933 channels at one DIMM per channel, 48 PCIe 3.0 lanes and Optane persistent memory support. It scales past two sockets for the largest hosts.

Compatibility
This Cascade Lake-SP part fits LGA 3647 boards only, not LGA 4189 servers. A 1st Gen Xeon Scalable server needs a Cascade Lake capable BIOS first (2.1.x or newer on Dell 14th gen), flashed with the old CPUs installed; do not mix generations. In the 1U Dell PowerEdge R640 it needs the 1U high-performance heatsink and high-performance fans; check Dell's thermal restriction table. When to Choose This
The Platinum 8268 is the high-clock twenty-four-core Platinum: 2.9 GHz base and 3.9 GHz turbo. It suits four-socket database and analytics hosts that need clock as well as cores. The Platinum 8260 gives twenty-four cores at 2.4 GHz for 165 W. Trap: in a two-socket server the Gold 6248R gives twenty-four cores at 3.0 GHz for the same 205 W at lower cost; pay for Platinum only when you need four sockets.
