Compatibility
This is an Ice Lake-SP part for LGA 4189 boards only; it does not fit the older LGA 3647 sockets. Despite the Platinum badge, it is a single-socket part: Dell lists it for one-socket configurations only, so do not plan a pair, and install it alone in socket 1. Memory runs at DDR4-2933, not the DDR4-3200 of most Platinum 8300 parts. At 225 W the 2U Dell PowerEdge R750 has the thermal headroom for it. On the HPE ProLiant DL360 and DL380 Gen10 Plus, HPE requires the high-performance heatsink kit P27095-B21 for any processor of 150 W or more. Browse matching parts for the Dell PowerEdge R750.
When to Choose This
The 8351N is the network-optimized way to put 36 cores in one socket: NFV, 5G core and virtual network functions at 225 W, with all 64 PCIe 4.0 lanes on one CPU. The trap is buying two for a dual-socket server; it will not pair. For two-socket builds or memory-bound work, the Platinum 8360Y gives 36 cores with DDR4-3200 and runs as a matched pair.
