Compatibility
This is an Ice Lake-SP part for LGA 4189 boards only; it does not fit the older LGA 3647 sockets. At 240 W it is a high-TDP part. In the 1U Dell PowerEdge R650 it takes Dell's T-type heatsink and calls for the high-performance fan configuration; check Dell's thermal restriction table against your drive layout. The 2U R750 has more headroom. On the HPE ProLiant DL360 and DL380 Gen10 Plus, HPE requires the high-performance heatsink kit P27095-B21 for any processor of 150 W or more. In a two-socket build, run a matched pair: the same SKU in both sockets. Browse matching parts for the Dell PowerEdge R650.
When to Choose This
The P suffix marks Intel's IaaS cloud SKU: 32 cores at 2.6 GHz base and full DDR4-3200 at 240 W, 10 W below the Platinum 8358. It fits private cloud nodes and VM hosts that run many tenants at steady clocks. Outside cloud hosting it performs much like the 8358; buy whichever matches your existing pair. If power is the constraint, the Platinum 8352Y gives 32 cores at 205 W.
