The Xeon Platinum 8400 series is the top bin of Intel's 4th Gen Xeon Scalable (Sapphire Rapids, 2023) family for LGA 4677: up to 56 cores per socket, eight DDR5-4800 memory channels and 80 PCIe 5.0 lanes per CPU. It is built for dense virtualization, large databases and AI inference on the AMX matrix engine.

Compatibility
This is a 4th Gen Xeon Scalable (Sapphire Rapids) part for LGA 4677 boards only; it does not fit the LGA 4189 or LGA 3647 sockets of earlier generations. At 350 W it sits at the top of the platform envelope: in the 1U Dell PowerEdge R660, Dell supports it only in the no-backplane and 8-bay 2.5-inch configurations with a 30°C inlet ceiling, on the L-type heatsink and high-performance Gold fans. When to Choose This
The 8480+ is the top bin of the 4th Gen range: 56 cores, 105 MB of cache and all four accelerators enabled, 112 cores per node for consolidation, HPC and AMX inference.
