Compatibility
This is an Ice Lake-SP part for LGA 4189 boards only; it does not fit the older LGA 3647 sockets. At 12 cores and 120 W it fits the value Dell PowerEdge R450 and R550 as well as the xs and full R650 and R750, on the standard heatsink in the R650. Memory runs at DDR4-2666 with any Silver 4300 processor; faster DIMMs buy nothing. In a two-socket build, run a matched pair: the same SKU in both sockets. When to Choose This
The 4310 is the volume Silver part: 12 cores at 120 W for domain and DNS servers, backup repositories, small VMware clusters and lab hosts. Its 2.1 GHz base clock is the weak point for latency-sensitive applications. The Silver 4314 adds four cores at 135 W; the Gold 5317 gives the same 12 cores at 3.0 GHz with DDR4-2933, the better pick for licensed databases.
