The Xeon Silver 4500 series is the entry tier of Intel's 5th Gen Xeon Scalable (Emerald Rapids, 2024) family for LGA 4677, with eight DDR5-4400 memory channels and 80 PCIe 5.0 lanes per CPU. It is the cost-led choice for infrastructure roles, one memory-speed step above the Silver 4400 series.

Compatibility
This is a 5th Gen Xeon Scalable (Emerald Rapids) part for LGA 4677 boards only; it does not fit LGA 4189 or LGA 3647 sockets, and the system BIOS should be current before the swap. At 125 W it runs on the standard heatsink in the Dell PowerEdge R660, R660xs and R760xs. The xs boards carry 16 DIMM slots, one per channel, so fill all eight channels per CPU for full bandwidth. When to Choose This
The 4509Y is the low-power entry part of the 5th Gen range: eight cores at 125 W, for small Windows Server hosts, domain controllers and appliances where power draw matters. The Silver 4510 adds four cores for 150 W. The warning: eight cores is thin for virtualization, so do not buy it to consolidate; the Silver 4514Y is the 16-core step.
