Compatibility
This is a 5th Gen Xeon Scalable (Emerald Rapids) part for LGA 4677 boards only; it does not fit LGA 4189 or LGA 3647 sockets, and the system BIOS should be current before the swap. At 185 W it needs the high-performance heatsink in the Dell PowerEdge R660xs; Dell fits the standard heatsink only up to 150 W on that board. The R660xs carries 16 DIMM slots, one per channel, so fill all eight channels per CPU. Memory runs at DDR5-4400 with this CPU, whatever the DIMM rating. The 4516Y+ is the top Silver part of the 5th Gen range: 24 cores at 185 W with all four accelerators enabled, a Gold-class core count at a Silver price for virtualization and storage nodes. The Silver 4514Y gives 16 cores at 150 W if power is tight. The trap is memory: DDR5-4400 trails the DDR5-4800 of the Gold 5520+, which matters for databases.
