A 2.5-inch SATA drive at 6 Gb/s: it runs on onboard SATA ports, SAS controllers and HBAs, and on SAS or SATA backplanes, since SAS controllers accept SATA drives, but not in an NVMe-only bay. Server bays need the carrier made for that chassis, and carriers differ by vendor and generation; we match the tray to your chassis. A 3.5-inch bay needs a 2.5-to-3.5 adapter carrier. When to Choose This

Choose the BX500 240 GB for a boot drive, a lab machine or a workstation OS volume. It is client-class: Crucial lists no power-loss protection and rates it 80 TBW, so it is not for RAID write duty or databases. For those, a Kingston DC600M or Samsung PM893 adds capacitor-backed protection and 1 DWPD. As a light-duty boot drive it does the job.
