New enterprise 3.84TB SAS SSD, the largest generic SAS flash drive we list, for 2.5-inch SAS bays in Dell 13th to 16th gen PowerEdge and HPE Gen9 to Gen10 Plus ProLiant servers. SAS SSDs are the enterprise flash tier for SAS backplanes: they use the same PERC, Smart Array and HBA controllers and the same bays as SAS hard drives, with the full-duplex SAS link and its error handling. They are the straightforward flash upgrade for an existing SAS array.

A 2.5-inch SAS SSD fits any SAS-capable 2.5-inch bay on a PERC, Smart Array or HBA, the same bays and controllers as SAS hard drives; a SATA-only port or an NVMe-only bay will not run it. It links at 12 Gb/s on 12 Gb/s controllers and negotiates down on older SAS hardware. In a 3.5-inch bay it needs a 2.5-to-3.5 adapter carrier. When to Choose This

Pick the 3.84TB to consolidate a spinning SAS array onto fewer flash drives, or to build large VM and analytics volumes without using every bay. Two 1.92TB drives give more parallelism; one 3.84TB frees a bay. Endurance class is not rated for this generic lot, so heavy write duty belongs on a branded drive. Choose New for an unused drive with full service life; the refurbished 3.84TB is the cost play.
