This 3.5-inch LFF SAS drive fits 3.5-inch bays only; a chassis built with 2.5-inch bays cannot take it. It needs a SAS controller and SAS backplane, links at 12 Gb/s on 12 Gb/s PERC and Smart Array controllers, and runs at 6 Gb/s on older SAS hardware. When to Choose This

The 8TB is the entry nearline capacity for backup targets, surveillance archives and file servers in a 3.5-inch chassis. We do not quote RAID 5 for large-capacity spinning disk arrays: an 8TB rebuild runs for hours, and a second failure in that window loses the volume, so we quote RAID 6 or RAID 10.
