This is a 12 Gb/s SAS drive: it needs a SAS controller and SAS backplane, and a SATA-only controller cannot run it. It links at 12 Gb/s on PERC, Smart Array and HBA controllers alike, including a 24G-capable PERC 12. In a 3.5-inch bay it needs a 2.5-to-3.5 adapter carrier. Choose the 960GB PM1643a for a mirrored OS or hypervisor volume, or a small read-intensive datastore on a SAS array. It is the slowest writer of the line at 1,000 MB/s and 40K IOPS; the 1.92TB and 3.84TB write faster.
